Why a Car Lockout in Vineyard Can Turn Into a Tow
Vineyard's parking rules leave little room: "Street parking is prohibited during snowfall," and an illegally parked car may be towed or booted at the owner's expense. The Providence and Springs neighborhoods also require street-parking permits, up to three per household. A car with its keys locked inside can't be moved, so a curbside lockout during a storm carries a cost here that it might not elsewhere.
The city itself is brand new. Built on the old Geneva Steel mill site, Vineyard grew from 139 residents in 2010 to about 16,000 by mid-2025, per Census estimates, and about 95% of its homes date from 2010 or later. Most households rent, a third of homes sit in buildings with 10 or more units, and the median age is about 25. That adds up to a lot of cars parked overnight in shared apartment lots and townhome parking courts.
New destinations bring drivers in from outside, too. Megaplex Theatres at Geneva, at 600 North Mill Road, runs 13 screens with an IMAX, and Bella's Market at 875 North Main opened in November 2025 as Vineyard's first grocery store. The Vineyard FrontRunner station on Market Street has a small 108-space park-and-ride. From our office, Vineyard Town Hall is about 8.6 miles, roughly 15 minutes on clear roads, by I-15 and the Orem Center Street exit.
