Orem Lockouts Follow University Parkway
Utah Valley University has close to 49,000 students and no on-campus housing, so students drive in from off-campus apartments and rentals, and their cars sit in campus lots for hours. A backpack, a laptop, and a coffee in hand is how keys end up on a seat when the door shuts. UVU is also Orem's largest employer, with 3,030 workers in the city's 2023 financial report, so faculty and staff fill the same lots.
The parkway's other big draw is University Place at 575 East, the 120-acre redevelopment of the old University Mall. Costco, Dillard's, Trader Joe's, The Cheesecake Factory, and a Cinemark all share its parking, and a loaded cart beside an open hatch is a common setup for locking keys in the back. Name the store you parked closest to when you call. On summer evenings, the SCERA Shell outdoor theatre draws a different crowd to SCERA Park at 600 South 400 East.
Orem Central FrontRunner station, at 900 South and 1350 West, adds roughly 498 free park-and-ride spaces, and the UVX bus line runs 11 miles from there through UVU and on into Provo. A car left at the station all day belongs to someone who may be a train ride away from a spare key. From our office on University Avenue, this whole corridor is a short drive north.
