What Makes a Mapleton Car Lockout Different
Mapleton is rural by design. Its General Plan describes foothill neighborhoods that are "primarily rural," with one-acre, two-acre, and larger lots, and lots of two acres or more are the city's most common residential land use. About 91% of homes are single-family detached, and apartment buildings are nearly absent. On a big lot, a locked truck may be parked by a shop or barn, well away from the house and the spare key.
The town is filling in fast. Census estimates for July 2025 put Mapleton at about 16,275 residents, up 43% from 2020, and subdivisions like Mapleton Village and Harmony Ridge keep adding streets. Commercial land totals only about 22 acres, scattered along Highway 89, so many errands happen in Springville or Spanish Fork, both cities we also cover.
Up the hill, Whiting Campground sits in Maple Canyon about 3 miles from town at 5,400 feet, and the Maple Canyon Trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers, dirt bikes, and horses. Horse trailers park about a mile below the campground, so tell us which spot you're at. The canyon is outside city limits, so we'll confirm on the phone whether that trip is one we can make. Spanish Fork Peak, the "Maple Mountain" locals know, looks down on all of it.
