Highland Lockouts Happen Close to Home
Highland's General Plan calls it "a family-oriented bedroom community defined by large lots, single-family homes, and open spaces." The numbers fit: about 92% of homes are owner-occupied, owner households average 4.3 people, and commercial uses cover less than 1% of the city's land. A household that size shares cars and keys, and fobs get left on a seat during a quick stop or locked in by a teenager at the park.
Much of daily life circles the parks and the Town Center. Highland's 25 parks include Highland Glen, which the Murdock Canal Trail passes through, plus Mitchell Hollow, Spring Creek, and Town Center Meadows. The Civic Center holds City Hall, the library, and a splash pad, and Highland Marketplace at 5300 West 11000 North adds about 40,000 square feet of shops.
Kid or pet inside on a warm day? Dial 911 first. Emergency responders come before any locksmith, and we can deal with the car once everyone is safe.
The city's east edge is the gateway to American Fork Canyon. SR-92 runs from I-15 through Highland and on past Timpanogos Cave toward the Alpine Loop, which closes in winter. A car locked near the canyon entrance is still a Highland call.
