Key Fob Programming in Provo: Know Your Fob
"Key fob" covers three different devices, and each one programs differently.
Remote head keys
A blade with lock and unlock buttons in the head. Inside are two systems: a transponder chip the immobilizer reads before the engine will run, and a transmitter for the doors. Many vehicles program them separately, so a key can start the car while its buttons do nothing. Flip keys work the same way.
Separate remotes
A standalone remote on the ring beside a plain or chip key. It locks and unlocks, but programming it never touches the immobilizer, which makes it the simplest fob to add.
Proximity (push-to-start) fobs
The car senses the fob in your pocket, unlocks at the handle, and starts with a button. Because the fob handles both entry and starting, it is registered to the immobilizer, usually through the diagnostic port. When every key is gone, the job becomes car key replacement.
