What if my ID is locked inside the house?
That is common and not a problem. Tell us on the call. We open the door, and you show us your ID, lease, or mail in your name before we leave. If your license lists a different address, a lease on your phone or a utility bill for the unit works too.
Should I call my landlord before calling a locksmith?
If it is during office hours, it is worth a try. Many landlords and property managers keep a key and may be able to let you in. After hours, or if the manager cannot come soon, call us, and have your lease or ID with the unit address ready.
Can you open a bedroom or bathroom door locked from the inside?
Yes, and often you can do it yourself. Most privacy knobs have a small hole on the outside face, and a thin pin or small flat tool pushed or turned in that hole releases the lock. Keyed interior locks need picking. If a young child is locked in and could be hurt, call 911.
My keypad lock's batteries died. Can you get me in?
Yes. Some models, such as the Yale Assure Lock SL, accept a 9-volt battery jump from outside for one entry, so check your manual first. Many keypad deadbolts also have a backup key cylinder that we can pick like any other lock. Once inside, change the batteries and keep a spare set handy.
