Old Doors and New Ones: Emergency Calls in American Fork
American Fork was settled in 1850, and the city keeps written histories of more than 40 historic homes, many along 100 East, Main Street, and Pacific Drive. Census data shows 9.3% of its housing was built before 1950. Locks on doors that old have often been replaced, painted over, or patched more than once, and a door that has settled can make a deadbolt bind until the bolt won't throw. Those calls need a repair or a new lock, not just an opening.
At the other end, 10.9% of homes were built in 2020 or later, and Census estimates show the population grew about 23% from 2020 to 2025. In a new subdivision the hardware is usually fine. The emergency is a lost key, a garage entry door that locked behind you, or a keypad deadbolt with dead batteries.
Car lockouts follow the big parking lots: The Meadows between I-15 and State Street, the Costco and Target lots beside it, and the 553-space FrontRunner park-and-ride. Summer adds crowds at the mouth of American Fork Canyon, where Timpanogos Cave drew 92,031 visitors in 2025, and Steel Days runs eight days with more than 30 events around town.
