Beyond the Front Door: Lockouts on Mapleton's Big Lots
Mapleton started as "Union Bench" and still feels rural. Its General Plan lists lots of two acres or more as the most common residential land use, and Census figures show 85.4% of homes owner-occupied and 91.5% single-family detached, with almost no apartments. The city is also growing fast: it added 1,336 residents from 2024 to 2025, an 8.9% jump, per the Utah Population Committee, and 13.6% of its homes date from 2020 or later.
On a big lot, an emergency isn't only about the house. A lost key ring can leave you outside a detached shop, an outbuilding, or a locked gate as well, and on a dark foothill lot, finding the right door matters. Tell us which building is locked and where to park when you call.
For vehicles, Maple Canyon is the place to know. Whiting Campground sits about 3 miles from town at 5,400 feet, and horse trailers park about a mile below it for the Maple Canyon Trail. Closer to home, Mapleton's small commercial strip is scattered along Highway 89, its only regional road, since I-15 never touches the city.
