Saratoga Springs Homes Arrive With Keys You Did Not Cut
Saratoga Springs incorporated at the end of 1997 and counted 1,003 residents in the 2000 census. Census estimates now show 94.2% of its homes were built in 2000 or later, and 84.5% are owner-occupied. Most of that growth sits in master-planned communities: D.R. Horton's Legacy Farms and Northshore, Toll Brothers and Lennar at Wildflower, and the Mt. Saratoga plan on the Eagle Mountain line.
A new home changes hands differently from a resale. Before you sign, its doors may have been opened by framers, finish carpenters, cleaners, the inspector, and agents showing it to buyers. Some builders also send warranty crews back during the first year, so if you rekey, plan to let them in yourself. Lockboxes and shared construction keys are convenient for a builder, but they leave the new owner with no record of who held a copy.
About 18.0% of homes are attached townhomes, many in HOA-run communities, and the 230-acre Northshore plan alone mixes 11 housing types. In a city this new, the key on your ring is likely one of several cut for the same cylinder. If you are buying in one of the older neighborhoods, such as Lake Mountain Estates or Pelican Bay, add the previous owners' spares to that list.
