Cold Nights and Aging Locks Across Pleasant Grove
Pleasant Grove climbs toward Mount Timpanogos, and the NOAA station inside city limits records what that brings. Its 1991-2020 normals show a 23.8°F average January low and 41.4 inches of annual snow, and the city's record low is -19°F. When snowmelt seeps into a lock cylinder and refreezes overnight, the key won't turn in the morning. Grit and the wrong lubricant make it worse, because oily sprays thicken in the cold and hold dirt against the pins.
The housing adds its own wear. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey shows the 2000s were Pleasant Grove's biggest building decade, with 26.6% of homes, and the median home was built in 1999. Locks from that boom are now 15 to 25 years old, and basic builder knobs and deadbolts wear out at the latch and the spring. Another 13.3% of homes predate 1970, and doors that old can need hardware fitted around past repairs.
We work all over town, including the historic neighborhoods on the city's official map, from Little Denmark and Old Fort to Monkey Town, Mud Hole, and Sam White's Lane. If you just moved into one of those houses, our Pleasant Grove rekeying page covers retiring the old keys.
